Pets require
proper nourishment to grow healthy, active, productive and physically strong. Their
nourishment may typically include timely health checkup, regular physical
exercise, proper feeding and grooming. If you don’t give your pets proper care,
they get more prone to diseases. Pet owners need to invest a good amount of
time and money to ensure their pets stay healthy and wise. Time is not a
constraint, though money becomes the biggest hurdle for most pet owners.
Moreover, expensive veterinary practices are something out of pet owners’
reach.
Being dependent on up-market veterinary practices is not the only
way to keep your pets healthy. Livestock farmers and pet owners can also opt
for natural health care treatments and herbal care to ensure their pets’
physical well-being. Irrespective of the pet breeds or species you own,
diseases are a serious health concern for pets. When your pets behave
unusually, it’s time to give them a health checkup. On diagnosis of disease, finding
the least expensive and most effective treatment is essential.
Not all pets are vulnerable to the same disease, which means
diseases in pets are species-specific. Diseases in pets widely vary, so do
their treatments and cure. Here’s a list of some animals and their associated
diseases:
DOGS
Ear infections: Caused by yeast,
allergies, bacteria, ear mites and hair growth deep in the ear canal, ear
infections are a common health problem found in dogs. Symptoms of ear
infections may include head shaking, vigorous scratching, ear odor, unusual
back-and-forth eye movement, redness in the ear canal, and swelling on the
outer portion of the ear.
Diabetes: Dogs can develop diabetes as a
part of the aging process. It can be controlled by a healthy diet followed by
physical exercise. Also, in some cases, dogs may require insulin shots.
Distemper: A tragic, fatal canine
disease, Distemper is a viral illness with no known cure. This disease affects
dogs and some other pet species, including raccoon, foxes, wolves and skunks. The
virus initially attacks dogs’ tonsils and lymph nodes, and replicates itself
for about one week. Once spread, it attacks urogenital, respiratory, gastrointestinal
and nervous system.
CATS
Kidney disease: Common in senior cats, Kidney
disease can also develop cats and dogs of all ages. This disease can lead to a
series of health problems. When it gets chronic, there is no cure for it.
However, diagnosis at early stage and good care can prevent the disease.
Skin Cancer: Skin Cancer (Squamous Cell
Carcinoma) is a type of cancer that develops in the squamous epithelium. Cats
with skin cancer can have a raised bump on the skin. It’s usually caused by
long-term exposure to the sunlight/UV rays.
Diabetes: As the cats get older, they
become more vulnerable to diabetes. Diabetes is commonly found in aged cats.
